In-Home Window Treatment Consultation in Kansas City

Skip the guesswork and the trips back and forth to a store. At One Stop Decorating, our designers come to your home free of charge, bring the samples to you, and handle everything from measuring to installation. Most appointments take about one to two hours. Here is exactly what to expect, how to prepare, and what we can help you sort out while we are there.

Why an In-Home Consultation Beats Guessing

Window treatments are custom and made to order, so the fit has to be right the first time. Seeing samples in your own light, against your own walls and floors, tells you far more than a showroom display or a website photo ever can.

It also helps you avoid the costly mistakes we see with DIY orders all the time: windows that are out of square, the wrong inside or outside mount, slat or fabric sizes that look off in the space, and coverings that hang too long or too short. One visit usually pays for itself by getting the order right.

What to Expect, Step by Step

1. We come to you, free of charge.

Our designers start by understanding your needs and evaluating your windows: how much depth you have, which side of the house they face, how you use each room, and who will be operating the coverings. Your style and your decor guide every recommendation.

2. We bring the showroom to your home.

No need to drive in. We bring fabric selections and hand samples that we hold right in the window, so you can see how each option fits and looks against what you already have.

3. We measure with lasers.

We take precise measurements at the top, middle, and bottom of each window, and in three spots along the length, so your coverings are built within 1/8 inch of the opening. Accurate measuring is the single most important step for a clean fit.

4. We order on the spot.

Most orders go in right there during the appointment, so nothing stalls. Most window coverings arrive in 2 to 6 weeks, with some coming in faster and others a little longer, depending on the options you choose.

5. We schedule the install around you.

When your order arrives, we call and set an install time that actually works for you. No vague three or four-hour windows. If we book you for noon, we are there at noon, and if anything changes, we will call ahead.

6. Our own installers handle it.

Because we employ our installers instead of subcontracting, the people in your home are trained and accountable. They install and adjust everything, then walk you through how each covering works.

7. We register your warranty.

Once the install is done, we process your warranty and register you with Hunter Douglas. If an issue ever comes up, we can take care of you right away.

How to Prepare for Your Appointment

A little prep makes the visit faster and more productive. Before we arrive, it helps to:

  • Decide which rooms and windows are the priority
  • Think about what matters most in each room: light, privacy, energy savings, or a specific look
  • Note who uses each space, including kids, pets, and light sleepers, so we can suggest cordless or blackout options
  • Have a rough budget and a few style ideas in mind
  • Clear easy access to the windows you want covered

No need to measure anything yourself. That part is on us.
